Alternatively, 4:3 may designate the time when complete responsibility for transporting the tabernacle was undertaken, with lighter duties being assumed at age 25. In 1 Chr. 23:24–26 David lowered the age of Levitical service to 20 because transportation of the tabernacle was no longer necessary.
