8:2 leper. A variety of skin diseases are referred to by the Greek word used here, probably not Hansen’s disease (modern “leprosy”). Touching a leper made one ceremonially unclean (cf. Lev. 15:7), but in this case the leper is healed and becomes clean rather than Jesus becoming ritually defiled.
