Mark 14:64

14:64 blasphemy. Jesus is condemned, not for insurrection, but for His claim to deity, the essence of His message. The prescribed punishment for blasphemy (insulting the honor of God’s name) was death by stoning (Lev. 24:16), but at this time only Roman courts could order capital punishment. Jesus would die by a Roman punishment (John 18:31, 32 and notes).
