The God who appears with miraculous power in the theophany of the burning bush is the Lord not of “the dead,” but of the “living,” those united to Him in an eternal covenant of grace. The teaching about resurrection, Jesus implies, is not limited to certain Old Testament proof texts (e.g., Job 19:25–27; Ps. 16:9–11; 17:15; 73:24–26; Is. 26:19; 53:11; Ezek. 37:1–14; Dan. 12:2; Hos. 6:2; 13:14), but is grounded in the Person of the living and life-giving God.
