Luke 6:20

6:20 Blessed. This term implies more than “fortunate” or “happy;” it is a religious term and means those who enjoy the favor of God.

you who are poor. Luke is especially concerned with the blessings that the gospel brings to the poor (see notes 1:46–55, 51–53; Ps. 9:18 note). Poverty can be a curse (Prov. 30:8, 9), and disciples know that they must rely on God for all things. They have no resources of their own and are “poor,” but God blesses them with “the kingdom.”
