24:3–13 The word of God to the people on this occasion is not a new word. The books of Genesis (vv. 2–4), Exodus (vv. 5–7), Numbers (vv. 8–10), and Joshua (vv. 11–13) are reviewed by way of rehearsing God’s dealings with the people since the time of Abraham, focusing on the gift of the land promised to Abraham and now received by his descendants. The review begins with a digest of Genesis from the promise to Abraham through the descent to Egypt (Gen. 11–50).
