1:2–2:17 Two crises confront Judah with the consequences of their sins: (a) the recent devastation of the land by locusts (1:4–8) and drought (1:10–12, 16–20); and (b) the imminent assault on the land by the army of the Lord (2:1–17). If the people would be delivered from these calamities, they must repent of their sins and return to the Lord.
