James 1:9–10

1:9, 10 boast. Both the poor and the rich are exhorted to take pride in their positions. The poor brother is wealthy in spiritual treasure. He has high status in the kingdom of God. If the term “rich” refers to wealthy Christians, James means they can rejoice that they have learned where true treasure is found. If “rich” refers to the ungodly, the reference to their “boast” is ironic.
