Hag 1:11

1:11 a drought. The drought on Judah’s crops was God’s curse on their agriculture, in keeping with His covenant (1:6 note; Deut. 7:13). The Hebrew word translated “ruins” in v. 9 sounds like the Hebrew word for “drought” here. Haggai’s play on words reinforces the point that the drought was God’s response to their neglect of His house.
