3:1–19 This chapter records the persevering prayer of Habakkuk. In moving hymnic style, Habakkuk responds (vv. 16–19) to the Lord’s revelation (2:2–5) of His imminent intervention in history on behalf of His people (vv. 3–15). As the Babylonians represented the proud and wicked on their way to ruin, Habakkuk now exemplifies the righteous faithful persevering and already rejoicing in hope of the Lord’s promise of life.
