2:10 A river. The location of this river is now unknown. The Tigris and Euphrates do not have a single source, but some translate this verse as indicating a river formed by the confluence of four rivers (rather than branching into four).
This river reminds us of the spring of living water, the spiritual source of life, that issues from the throne of the living God (Ps. 36:8; Jer. 17:13; Ezek. 47:1–12; Rev. 22:1). Jesus also used the symbol of “living water” in describing the blessings of salvation (John 4:14; 7:37–39).
