His descendants are sometimes called “Hittites.” As is evident here, these Hittites were reckoned as among the Canaanites, and the relationship between the Hittites mentioned in the Old Testament (e.g., 23:3–20; 26:34; 27:46; 1 Sam. 26:6; 2 Sam. 11:3), whose names appear to be Semitic rather than Hittite, and the great Hittite Empire of Asia Minor is debated.
