Gal 2:12

2:12 drew back. Many Jewish Christians resisted God’s commandment that Gentiles who believed in Christ should be received without having to follow the ceremonial law (Acts 10:28; 11:2, 3, 19; 15:1). Both Peter and Barnabas (v. 13) succumbed to pressure from a group that believed that to be circumcised, that is, to become a full Jewish proselyte, was necessary for becoming a Christian.
