1:9–11 The total of the numbers in vv. 9–10 is 2,499, not 5,400 as reported in v. 11. The reason for this discrepancy is not known. The difficulty is compounded by not knowing exactly what the “basins” and “bowls” were. The production of these treasures must have encouraged the spirits of God’s people, since Jeremiah had prophesied that they would be preserved and carried back to Jerusalem (Jer. 27:22).
