44:3 prince. Since the gate is closed, the gateway becomes a room; in this room the prince will be allowed to eat his portion of sacrificial meals. This provision has never been put into effect for any king of Israel. In Ezekiel’s vision it represents the special relationship the promised king would maintain with the temple. See note 37:24.
