Ezek 39:17

39:17 sacrificial feast. See note 29:5. Usually sacrifice meant that animals became food. Here the image is reversed: the human enemies are sacrificed, and the animals eat. By such a reversal of the created order (Gen. 1:30; 9:2, 3) the prophet shows the universe dissolving into chaos under God’s judgment (38:18–23 note). The same image is used in Rev. 19:17, 18 (Is. 34:6, 7; Jer. 46:10; Zeph. 1:7–9).
