Ezek 26:19–20

26:19, 20 waters . . . pit. Waters and a pit are common biblical metaphors for death or the realm of the dead (waters: Ex. 15:5, 8, 10; Job 26:5; Ps. 32:6; 69:2, 14; Lam. 3:54. Pit: 31:14, 16; 32:18, 23, 24, 30; Job 33:18–30; Ps. 30:3, 9; 55:23; 88:4–6; 103:4; 143:7; Prov. 1:12; Is. 14:15; 38:18). These two images are combined in 28:8; Ps. 69:15; Jon. 2:5, 6. The prophet describes the mythological waters of chaos engulfing the island and its inhabitants (28:2 note).
