13:17–23 The Bible mentions several true prophetesses, like Miriam, Deborah, Huldah, and Anna (Ex. 15:20; Judg. 4:4; 2 Kin. 22:14; 2 Chr. 34:22; Luke 2:36), and some false ones (Neh. 6:14; Rev. 2:20). The women mentioned in these verses are practitioners of magic and sorcery, activities specifically forbidden for Israel (12:21–14:11 note). They made their living by selling amulets and charms.
