2:19 at the king’s gate. This expression (cf. v. 21; 3:2; 5:9, 13; 6:10, 12) may imply that Mordecai had been made a palace official, a position that not only enabled him to discover the conspiracy to assassinate the king (v. 21), but also may have incited Haman’s jealousy (5:13).
