3:1 Og the king of Bashan. Bashan was a fertile region located east of the Jordan and the Sea of Galilee, and extending from the Yarmuk River in the south to Mount Hermon in the north. It is wheat country today and in ancient time was famous for its cattle and flocks (Ps. 22:12; Deut. 32:14). The spoil of this area must have seemed a treasure to the nomadic Israelites.
