26:2 first of all the fruit. Many scholars suggest that vv. 1–11 refer to a special firstfruits offering that Israel was to bring when they took possession of the land (v. 4), although some relate the ceremony described in these verses to the perpetual firstfruits offering (Lev. 23:9–14). Either way, it is probable that the words of the ceremony reciting God’s mighty acts on Israel’s behalf (vv. 3–10) continued to be used in Israelite worship.
