3:26 the Most High God. This is a title expressing God’s universal authority. As in v. 29 and 2:47, such a confession on the lips of a pagan is not an acknowledgment that Daniel’s Lord is the only God, but only that He is supreme over other gods (4:2, 17, 34). To a Jew it means there is only one God (4:24–32; 5:18, 21; 7:18–27).
