Jerusalem. The name means “city of peace.” The Hebrew word for “peace” (shalom) denotes not only the absence of war, but also prosperity and wholeness. Because Judah had not sought integrity in the Lord, they would see destruction, not peace. This prophecy was fulfilled over 150 years later, when Nebuchadnezzar II conquered Jerusalem and burned every notable building, including the king’s house (2 Kin. 25:8–10).
