Acts 4:1

4:1 the priests. Several priests serving their allotted week’s temple service (Luke 1:8, 23) were near Solomon’s Colonnade and could hear Peter’s declarations about Jesus the Messiah. Alarmed at what was considered dangerous teaching against Jewish authority, they probably alerted the captain of the temple guard. This captain was the commander of the temple police force and a member of one of the important priestly families. The priests also alerted the Sadducees, who held prominent positions in the Sanhedrin, the Jewish council.
