3:2–11 The list of six sons born to David (vv. 2–5) amplifies the statement in v. 1 that “David grew stronger and stronger,” while the wrangling between Abner and Ish-bosheth over a concubine (vv. 6–11) dramatizes the final statement in v. 1 that ‘‘the house of Saul became weaker and weaker.”
