24:13 famine . . . foes . . . pestilence. Implicit in the threat of pursuit by “foes” is loss of life by the sword, as 1 Chr. 21:12 makes explicit. Famine, sword, and plague are the Old Testament’s triad of woes regularly threatened for obdurate covenant-breaking (Lev. 26:23–26; Deut. 28:21–26; 32:24, 25; 1 Kin. 8:37; 2 Chr. 20:9; Is. 51:19; Jer. 14:12; Ezek. 6:11, 12).
