2 Kgs 18:14–16

18:14–16 Hezekiah attempts to convince Sennacherib to withdraw by offering a huge tribute payment (v. 7 note). In using temple and palace treasuries to influence the actions of a foreign king, Hezekiah follows the example of Asa (1 Kin. 15:18) and his own father Ahaz (16:8, 9). The annals of Sennacherib confirm that Hezekiah sent tribute at this time.
