This statement dramatically recalls the earlier words of Hannah that “the adversaries . . . shall be broken to pieces; against them he will thunder in heaven” (2:10; cf. 2 Sam. 22:14). Hannah’s words are immediately preceded by the statement that “not by might shall a man prevail” (2:9). Human strength is of little consequence when the Lord decides to act.
