4:21 Ichabod . . . The glory has departed. Phinehas’s wife, as she dies, names their newborn son Ichabod, meaning either “No glory” or “Where is the glory?” (2:29 note). As v. 22 makes clear, the “glory” to which she refers is not primarily the house of Eli but the ark of God now lost. See also note on 14:3.
