31:10 Ashtaroth. These were the fertility goddesses of the Canaan-ites.

Beth-shan. Located in the Jordan Valley some sixteen miles south of the Sea of Chinnereth (Galilee), this border city of the territory of Manasseh is listed in Josh. 17:11, 16; Judg. 1:27 among those cities that resisted Israelite occupation and remained Canaanite and Philistine strongholds.
