15:29 will not lie or have regret. Saul’s rejection is final, and no attempt to mitigate its consequences will avail. There is no contradiction between this statement and the notices in vv. 11 and 35 that the Lord “regretted” having made Saul king. As in Num. 23:19, the point is that when the Lord makes a pronouncement intended to be final, He cannot be talked out of it.
