1 Sam 12:16–19

12:16–19 Having made his case against the people in vv. 3–15, Samuel now invokes a dramatic sign to drive home the point of the people’s guilt. The sign achieves the desired result, and the people repent for having “added to all our sins this evil, to ask for ourselves a king” (v. 19). On signs accompanying prophetic utterances, see 2:34 note.
