1 Kings 22:1

22:1 three years. Israel had peace for three years following the two-year war between Syria and Israel described in 20:1–34. During this peace, Hadadezer (Ben-hadad II) of Syria, Ahab of Israel, and ten other kings formed a coalition to ward off an Assyrian invasion led by Shalmaneser III. Assyrian records report that in the major battle of this campaign fought at Qarqar, Syria, on the Orontes River (853 b.c.), Ahab contributed two hundred chariots and ten thousand soldiers. Assyria’s claim to have won a great victory seems to be an exaggeration, because the Assyrians withdrew and did not try to invade again for about four years.
