1 Kings 16:24

16:24 Samaria. Like David (2 Sam. 5:6–12), Omri founded his own capital, Samaria. It was halfway between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea, about thirty-seven miles north of Jerusalem. Samaria was easily defended and became the permanent capital of Israel (20:1; 2 Kin. 6:24; 10:17; 13:6; 18:9, 10). “Samaria” sometimes refers to the northern kingdom as a whole (2 Kin. 17:24; Amos 3:9, 12).
