I. Proclaiming His Lordship (Chs. 1–2)

The predominant feature of chs. 1-2 is Paul's proclamation of the sovereignty of Christ. He declares that Christ holds in everything . . . the supremacy (1:18). Christ is head over every power and authority (2:10). Paul describes his own ministry in relation to this truth (1:1-2:5); he also applies it against the false teaching at Colosse (2:6-23).
