I. Introduction (1:1–3:5)

In several cases OT prophets acted out their messages, often at the express command of God (see Isa 20:2-4; Jer 27:2-11; Eze 12:1-6). Many times (as in Isa 20 and Eze 4:9-15) the actions were disgraceful and unpleasant. Thus there is every reason to believe that the situations described in chs. 1 and 3 actually took place. They formed an unforgettable illustration of the real situation between God and Israel.
