Uz [Ŭz]—firmness.

  1. A son of Aram and grandson of Shem (Gen. 10:23; 1 Chron. 1:17).
  2. A son of Dishan, a Horite in the land of Edom (Gen. 36:28; 1 Chron. 1:42). Uz is also the name of the land where Job was born and lived, and was part of the great Arabian desert running into Chaldea (Job 1:1; Jer. 25:20; Lam. 4:21).
