Tirshatha [Tûr’shathă]—reverence or beholding the time. The Persian title given to Zerubbabel and Nehemiah as governors of Judah under the king of Persia. The Persian word means “His Excellency” or “His Reverence” (Ezra 2:63; Neh. 7:65, 70; 8:9; 10:1).
