  1. And the little ones that you said would be taken captive, your children who do not yet know good from bad—they will enter the land. I will give it to them and they will take possession of it.

  9. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me,
  10. Oh, that their hearts would be inclined to fear me and keep all my commands always, so that it might go well with them and their children forever!
  11. so that you, your children and their children after them may fear the Lord your God as long as you live by keeping all his decrees and commands that I give you, and so that you may enjoy long life.
  12. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.
  13. for they will turn your children away from following me to serve other gods, and the Lord’s anger will burn against you and will quickly destroy you.
  14. Remember today that your children were not the ones who saw and experienced the discipline of the Lord your God: his majesty, his mighty hand, his outstretched arm;
  15. It was not your children who saw what he did for you in the wilderness until you arrived at this place,
  16. Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.
  17. so that your days and the days of your children may be many in the land the Lord swore to give your ancestors, as many as the days that the heavens are above the earth.
  18. Do not eat it, so that it may go well with you and your children after you, because you will be doing what is right in the eyes of the Lord.
  19. Be careful to obey all these regulations I am giving you, so that it may always go well with you and your children after you, because you will be doing what is good and right in the eyes of the Lord your God.
  20. Clean and Unclean Food

    You are the children of the Lord your God. Do not cut yourselves or shave the front of your heads for the dead,
  21. As for the women, the children, the livestock and everything else in the city, you may take these as plunder for yourselves. And you may use the plunder the Lord your God gives you from your enemies.
  22. The third generation of children born to them may enter the assembly of the Lord.
  23. Parents are not to be put to death for their children, nor children put to death for their parents; each will die for their own sin.
  24. Even the most gentle and sensitive man among you will have no compassion on his own brother or the wife he loves or his surviving children,
  25. and he will not give to one of them any of the flesh of his children that he is eating. It will be all he has left because of the suffering your enemy will inflict on you during the siege of all your cities.
