³ Jesus responded and said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless someone ^(A)is born ^[a]again he cannot see ^(B)the kingdom of God.”

⁴ Nicodemus *said to Him, “How can a person be born when he is old? He cannot enter his mother’s womb a second time and be born, can he?” ⁵ Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless someone is born of ^(C)water and the Spirit, he cannot enter ^(D)the kingdom of God. ^6 (E)That which has been born of the flesh is flesh, and that which has been born of the Spirit is spirit. ⁷ Do not be amazed that I said to you, ‘You must be born ^[b]again.’

⁴⁴ Now He said to them, “^(A)These are My words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all the things that are written about Me in the ^(B)Law of Moses and the Prophets and ^(C)the Psalms must be fulfilled.” ⁴⁵ Then He ^(D)opened their ^[a]minds to understand the Scriptures, ⁴⁶ and He said to them, “^(E)So it is written, that the ^[b]Christ would suffer and ^(F)rise from the dead on the third day, ⁴⁷ and that ^(G)repentance ^[c]for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed ^[d]in His name to ^(H)all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem. ⁴⁸ You are ^(I)witnesses of these things.
