Psalm 70-73

^2 (D)Let them be ashamed and confounded
Who seek my life;
Let them be ^[a]turned back and confused
Who desire my hurt.
^3 (E)Let them be turned back because of their shame,
Who say, ^[b]“Aha, aha!”

⁴ Let all those who seek You rejoice and be glad in You;
And let those who love Your salvation say continually,
“Let God be magnified!”

^5 (F)But I am poor and needy;
^(G)Make haste to me, O God!
You are my help and my deliverer;
O Lord, do not delay.

^4 (M)Deliver me, O my God, out of the hand of the wicked,
Out of the hand of the unrighteous and cruel man.
⁵ For You are ^(N)my hope, O Lord God;
You are my trust from my youth.
^6 (O)By You I have been ^[d]upheld from birth;
You are He who took me out of my mother’s womb.
My praise shall be continually of You.

^7 (P)I have become as a wonder to many,
But You are my strong refuge.
⁸ Let ^(Q)my mouth be filled with Your praise
And with Your glory all the day.

⁹ Do not cast me off in the time of old age;
Do not forsake me when my strength fails.
¹⁰ For my enemies speak against me;
And those who lie in wait for my life ^(R)take counsel together,
¹¹ Saying, “God has forsaken him;
Pursue and take him, for there is none to deliver him.”

^12 (S)O God, do not be far from me;
O my God, ^(T)make haste to help me!
¹³ Let them be ^[e]confounded and consumed
Who are adversaries of my life;
Let them be covered with reproach and dishonor
Who seek my hurt.

¹⁴ But I will hope continually,
And will praise You yet more and more.
¹⁵ My mouth shall tell of Your righteousness
And Your salvation all the day,
For I do not know their limits.
¹⁶ I will go in the strength of the Lord God;
I will make mention of Your righteousness, of Yours only.

¹⁷ O God, You have taught me from my ^(U)youth;
And to this day I declare Your wondrous works.
¹⁸ Now also ^(V)when I am old and grayheaded,
O God, do not forsake me,
Until I declare Your strength to this generation,
Your power to everyone who is to come.

¹⁹ Also ^(W)Your righteousness, O God, is ^[f]very high,
You who have done great things;
^(X)O God, who is like You?
^20 (Y)You, who have shown me great and severe troubles,
^(Z)Shall revive me again,
And bring me up again from the depths of the earth.
²¹ You shall increase my greatness,
And comfort me on every side.

²² Also ^(AA)with the lute I will praise You—
And Your faithfulness, O my God!
To You I will sing with the harp,
O ^(AB)Holy One of Israel.
²³ My lips shall greatly rejoice when I sing to You,
And ^(AC)my soul, which You have redeemed.
²⁴ My tongue also shall talk of Your righteousness all the day long;
For they are confounded,
For they are brought to shame
Who seek my hurt.

^5 [h]They shall fear You
^(AH)As long as the sun and moon endure,
Throughout all generations.
^6 (AI)He shall come down like rain upon the grass before mowing,
Like showers that water the earth.
⁷ In His days the righteous shall flourish,
^(AJ)And abundance of peace,
Until the moon is no more.

^8 (AK)He shall have dominion also from sea to sea,
And from the River to the ends of the earth.
^9 (AL)Those who dwell in the wilderness will bow before Him,
^(AM)And His enemies will lick the dust.
^10 (AN)The kings of Tarshish and of the isles
Will bring presents;
The kings of Sheba and Seba
Will offer gifts.
^11 (AO)Yes, all kings shall fall down before Him;
All nations shall serve Him.

¹² For He ^(AP)will deliver the needy when he cries,
The poor also, and him who has no helper.
¹³ He will spare the poor and needy,
And will save the souls of the needy.
¹⁴ He will redeem their life from oppression and violence;
And ^(AQ)precious shall be their blood in His sight.

¹⁵ And He shall live;
And the gold of ^(AR)Sheba will be given to Him;
Prayer also will be made for Him continually,
And daily He shall be praised.

¹⁶ There will be an abundance of grain in the earth,
On the top of the mountains;
Its fruit shall wave like Lebanon;
^(AS)And those of the city shall flourish like grass of the earth.

^17 (AT)His name shall endure forever;
His name shall continue as long as the sun.
And ^(AU)men shall be blessed in Him;
^(AV)All nations shall call Him blessed.

^18 (AW)Blessed be the Lord God, the God of Israel,
^(AX)Who only does wondrous things!
¹⁹ And ^(AY)blessed be His glorious name forever!
^(AZ)And let the whole earth be filled with His glory.

⁴ For there are no ^[i]pangs in their death,
But their strength is firm.
^5 (BE)They are not in trouble as other men,
Nor are they plagued like other men.
⁶ Therefore pride serves as their necklace;
Violence covers them ^(BF)like a garment.
^7 (BG)Their ^[j]eyes bulge with abundance;
They have more than heart could wish.
^8 (BH)They scoff and speak wickedly concerning oppression;
They ^(BI)speak ^[k]loftily.
⁹ They set their mouth ^(BJ)against the heavens,
And their tongue walks through the earth.

¹⁰ Therefore his people return here,
^(BK)And waters of a full cup are drained by them.
¹¹ And they say, ^(BL)“How does God know?
And is there knowledge in the Most High?”
¹² Behold, these are the ungodly,
Who are always at ease;
They increase in riches.
¹³ Surely I have ^[l]cleansed my heart in ^(BM)vain,
And washed my hands in innocence.
¹⁴ For all day long I have been plagued,
And chastened every morning.

¹⁵ If I had said, “I will speak thus,”
Behold, I would have been untrue to the generation of Your children.
¹⁶ When I thought how to understand this,
It was ^[m]too painful for me—
¹⁷ Until I went into the sanctuary of God;
Then I understood their ^(BN)end.

¹⁸ Surely ^(BO)You set them in slippery places;
You cast them down to destruction.
¹⁹ Oh, how they are brought to desolation, as in a moment!
They are utterly consumed with terrors.
²⁰ As a dream when one awakes,
So, Lord, when You awake,
You shall despise their image.

²¹ Thus my heart was grieved,
And I was ^[n]vexed in my mind.
^22 (BP)I was so foolish and ignorant;
I was like a beast before You.
²³ Nevertheless I am continually with You;
You hold me by my right hand.
^24 (BQ)You will guide me with Your counsel,
And afterward receive me to glory.

^25 (BR)Whom have I in heaven but You?
And there is none upon earth that I desire besides You.
^26 (BS)My flesh and my heart fail;
But God is the ^[o]strength of my heart and my ^(BT)portion forever.

²⁷ For indeed, ^(BU)those who are far from You shall perish;
You have destroyed all those who ^[p]desert You for harlotry.
²⁸ But it is good for me to ^(BV)draw near to God;
I have put my trust in the Lord God,
That I may ^(BW)declare all Your works.
