Love Fulfills the Law

⁸ Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law.^{(A) 9} The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,”^[a](B) and whatever other command there may be, are summed up^(C) in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”^{[b](D) 10} Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.^(E)

³ All who have this hope in him purify themselves,^(A) just as he is pure.^(B)

⁴ Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness.^{(C) 5} But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins.^(D) And in him is no sin.^(E)
