1 Chronicles 21

David’s Census Brings Pestilence
1(A) Then(B) Satan stood against Israel and incited David to number Israel. 2So David said to Joab and the commanders of the army, "Go, number Israel, from Beersheba to Dan, and bring me a report, that I may know their number." 3But Joab said, "May the LORD add to his people a hundred times as many as they are! Are they not, my lord the king, all of them my lord’s servants? Why then should my lord require this? Why should it be a cause of guilt for Israel?" 4But the king’s word prevailed against Joab. So Joab departed and went throughout all Israel and came back to Jerusalem.

2 Chronicles 16:7-10

Listen to this passage

7At that time(A) Hanani(B) the seer came to Asa king of Judah and said to him,(C) "Because you relied on the king of Syria, and did not rely on the LORD your God, the army of the king of Syria has escaped you. 8Were not(D) the Ethiopians and(E) the Libyans a huge army with very many chariots and horsemen? Yet(F) because you relied on the LORD, he gave them into your hand. 9(G) For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to give strong support to those(H) whose heart is blameless toward him.(I) You have done foolishly in this, for from now on(J) you will have wars." 10Then Asa was angry with the seer and put him(K) in the stocks in prison, for he was in a rage with him because of this. And Asa inflicted cruelties upon some of the people at the same time.
