Psalm 98

Praise the Judge of the World

A Psalm.

O sing to the Lord a new song,
    for he has done marvelous things.
His right hand and his holy arm
    have gotten him victory.(A)
The Lord has made known his victory;
    he has revealed his vindication in the sight of the nations.(B)
He has remembered his steadfast love and faithfulness
    to the house of Israel.
All the ends of the earth have seen
    the victory of our God.(C)

Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth;
    break forth into joyous song and sing praises.(D)
Sing praises to the Lord with the lyre,
    with the lyre and the sound of melody.
With trumpets and the sound of the horn
    make a joyful noise before the King, the Lord.(E)

Let the sea roar and all that fills it,
    the world and those who live in it.(F)
Let the floods clap their hands;
    let the hills sing together for joy(G)
at the presence of the Lord, for he is coming
    to judge the earth.
He will judge the world with righteousness
    and the peoples with equity.(H)

Psalm 99

Praise to God for His Holiness

The Lord is king; let the peoples tremble!
    He sits enthroned upon the cherubim; let the earth quake!(I)
The Lord is great in Zion;
    he is exalted over all the peoples.(J)
Let them praise your great and awesome name.
    Holy is he!
Mighty King,[a] lover of justice,
    you have established equity;
you have executed justice
    and righteousness in Jacob.(K)
Extol the Lord our God;
    worship at his footstool.
    Holy is he!(L)

Moses and Aaron were among his priests,
    Samuel also was among those who called on his name.
    They cried to the Lord, and he answered them.(M)
He spoke to them in the pillar of cloud;
    they kept his decrees
    and the statutes that he gave them.(N)

O Lord our God, you answered them;
    you were a forgiving God to them
    but an avenger of their wrongdoings.(O)
Extol the Lord our God,
    and worship at his holy mountain,
    for the Lord our God is holy.(P)

Psalm 100

All Lands Summoned to Praise God

A Psalm of thanksgiving.

Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth.(Q)
    Serve the Lord with gladness;
    come into his presence with singing.

Know that the Lord is God.
    It is he who made us, and we are his;[b]
    we are his people and the sheep of his pasture.(R)

Enter his gates with thanksgiving
    and his courts with praise.
    Give thanks to him; bless his name.(S)

For the Lord is good;
    his steadfast love endures forever
    and his faithfulness to all generations.(T)

Psalm 101

A Sovereign’s Pledge of Integrity and Justice

Of David. A Psalm.

I will sing of loyalty and of justice;
    to you, O Lord, I will sing.(U)
I will study the way that is blameless.
    When shall I attain it?

I will walk with integrity of heart
    within my house;(V)
I will not set before my eyes
    anything that is base.

I hate the work of those who fall away;
    it shall not cling to me.(W)
Perverseness of heart shall be far from me;
    I will know nothing of evil.(X)

One who secretly slanders a neighbor
    I will destroy.
A haughty look and an arrogant heart
    I will not tolerate.(Y)

I will look with favor on the faithful in the land,
    so that they may live with me;
whoever walks in the way that is blameless
    shall minister to me.(Z)

No one who practices deceit
    shall remain in my house;
no one who utters lies
    shall continue in my presence.

Morning by morning I will destroy
    all the wicked in the land,
cutting off all evildoers
    from the city of the Lord.(AA)

Psalm 102

Prayer to the Eternal King for Help

A prayer of one afflicted, when faint and pleading before the Lord.

Hear my prayer, O Lord;
    let my cry come to you.(AB)
Do not hide your face from me
    in the day of my distress.
Incline your ear to me;
    answer me speedily in the day when I call.(AC)

For my days pass away like smoke,
    and my bones burn like a furnace.(AD)
My heart is stricken and withered like grass;
    I am too wasted to eat my bread.(AE)
Because of my loud groaning,
    my bones cling to my skin.(AF)
I am like a desert owl[c] of the wilderness,
    like a little owl of the waste places.(AG)
I lie awake;
    I am like a lonely bird on the housetop.(AH)
All day long my enemies taunt me;
    those who deride me use my name for a curse.(AI)
Indeed, I eat ashes like bread
    and mingle tears with my drink,(AJ)
10 because of your indignation and anger,
    for you have lifted me up and thrown me aside.
11 My days are like a lengthening shadow;
    I wither away like grass.(AK)

12 But you, O Lord, are enthroned forever;
    your name endures to all generations.(AL)
13 You will rise up and have compassion on Zion,
    for it is time to favor it;
    the appointed time has come.(AM)
14 For your servants hold its stones dear
    and have pity on its dust.
15 The nations will fear the name of the Lord
    and all the kings of the earth your glory.(AN)
16 For the Lord will build up Zion;
    he will appear in his glory.(AO)
17 He will regard the prayer of the destitute
    and will not despise their prayer.(AP)

18 Let this be recorded for a generation to come,
    so that a people yet unborn may praise the Lord:(AQ)
19 that he looked down from his holy height,
    from heaven the Lord looked at the earth,(AR)
20 to hear the groans of the prisoners,
    to set free those who were doomed to die,(AS)
21 so that the name of the Lord may be declared in Zion
    and his praise in Jerusalem,(AT)
22 when peoples gather together,
    and kingdoms, to serve the Lord.(AU)

23 He has broken my strength in midcourse;
    he has shortened my days.(AV)
24 “O my God,” I say, “do not take me away
    at the midpoint of my life,
you whose years endure
    throughout all generations.”(AW)

25 Long ago you laid the foundation of the earth,
    and the heavens are the work of your hands.(AX)
26 They will perish, but you endure;
    they will all wear out like a garment.
You change them like clothing, and they pass away,(AY)
27     but you are the same, and your years have no end.(AZ)
28 The children of your servants shall live secure;
    their offspring shall be established in your presence.(BA)
