²⁵ For whoever wants to save their life^[a] will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it.^(A)

¹³ When they saw the courage of Peter and John^(A) and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men,^(B) they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.^(C)

⁵² Was there ever a prophet your ancestors did not persecute?^(A) They even killed those who predicted the coming of the Righteous One. And now you have betrayed and murdered him^(B)— ⁵³ you who have received the law that was given through angels^(C) but have not obeyed it.”

The Stoning of Stephen

⁵⁴ When the members of the Sanhedrin heard this, they were furious^(D) and gnashed their teeth at him. ⁵⁵ But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit,^(E) looked up to heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God.^{(F) 56} “Look,” he said, “I see heaven open^(G) and the Son of Man^(H) standing at the right hand of God.”

⁵⁷ At this they covered their ears and, yelling at the top of their voices, they all rushed at him, ⁵⁸ dragged him out of the city^(I) and began to stone him.^(J) Meanwhile, the witnesses^(K) laid their coats^(L) at the feet of a young man named Saul.^(M)
