¹² Therefore prophesy and say to them: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: My people, I am going to open your graves and bring you up from them; I will bring you back to the land of Israel.^{(A) 13} Then you, my people, will know that I am the Lord,^(B) when I open your graves and bring you up from them.^{(C) 14} I will put my Spirit^(D) in you and you will live, and I will settle^(E) you in your own land. Then you will know that I the Lord have spoken, and I have done it, declares the Lord.^(F)’”

²⁶ I will make a covenant of peace^(A) with them; it will be an everlasting covenant.^(B) I will establish them and increase their numbers,^(C) and I will put my sanctuary among them^(D) forever.^{(E) 27} My dwelling place^(F) will be with them; I will be their God, and they will be my people.^{(G) 28} Then the nations will know that I the Lord make Israel holy,^(H) when my sanctuary is among them forever.^(I)’”

⁷ He said: “Son of man, this is the place of my throne^(A) and the place for the soles of my feet. This is where I will live among the Israelites forever. The people of Israel will never again defile^(B) my holy name—neither they nor their kings—by their prostitution and the funeral offerings^[a] for their kings at their death.^[b](C)

² Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake:^(A) some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt.^{(B) 3} Those who are wise^[a](C) will shine^(D) like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness,^(E) like the stars for ever and ever.^(F)

²⁹ Jesus replied, “You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures^(A) or the power of God. ³⁰ At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage;^(B) they will be like the angels in heaven. ³¹ But about the resurrection of the dead—have you not read what God said to you, ³² ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’^[a]?^(C) He is not the God of the dead but of the living.”

⁵² and the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. ⁵³ They came out of the tombs after Jesus’ resurrection and^[a] went into the holy city^(A) and appeared to many people.

²⁴ Jesus replied, “Are you not in error because you do not know the Scriptures^(A) or the power of God? ²⁵ When the dead rise, they will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven.^{(B) 26} Now about the dead rising—have you not read in the Book of Moses, in the account of the burning bush, how God said to him, ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’^[a]?^{(C) 27} He is not the God of the dead, but of the living. You are badly mistaken!”
