Los discípulos recogen espigas en el día de reposo
(Mr. 2.23-28; Lc. 6.1-5)
12 En aquel tiempo iba Jesús por los sembrados en un día de reposo;[a] y sus discípulos tuvieron hambre, y comenzaron a arrancar espigas(A) y a comer. 2 Viéndolo los fariseos, le dijeron: He aquí tus discípulos hacen lo que no es lícito hacer en el día de reposo.[b] 3 Pero él les dijo: ¿No habéis leído lo que hizo David, cuando él y los que con él estaban tuvieron hambre; 4 cómo entró en la casa de Dios, y comió los panes de la proposición,(B) que no les era lícito comer ni a él ni a los que con él estaban, sino solamente a los sacerdotes?(C) 5 ¿O no habéis leído en la ley, cómo en el día de reposo[c] los sacerdotes en el templo profanan el día de reposo,[d] y son sin culpa?(D) 6 Pues os digo que uno mayor que el templo está aquí. 7 Y si supieseis qué significa:(E) Misericordia quiero, y no sacrificio,(F) no condenaríais a los inocentes; 8 porque el Hijo del Hombre es Señor del día de reposo.[e]
El hombre de la mano seca
(Mr. 3.1-6; Lc. 6.6-11)
9 Pasando de allí, vino a la sinagoga de ellos. 10 Y he aquí había allí uno que tenía seca una mano; y preguntaron a Jesús, para poder acusarle: ¿Es lícito sanar en el día de reposo?[f] 11 Él les dijo: ¿Qué hombre habrá de vosotros, que tenga una oveja, y si esta cayere en un hoyo en día de reposo,[g] no le eche mano, y la levante?(G) 12 Pues ¿cuánto más vale un hombre que una oveja? Por consiguiente, es lícito hacer el bien en los días de reposo.[h] 13 Entonces dijo a aquel hombre: Extiende tu mano. Y él la extendió, y le fue restaurada sana como la otra. 14 Y salidos los fariseos, tuvieron consejo contra Jesús para destruirle.
El siervo escogido
15 Sabiendo esto Jesús, se apartó de allí; y le siguió mucha gente, y sanaba a todos, 16 y les encargaba rigurosamente que no le descubriesen; 17 para que se cumpliese lo dicho por el profeta Isaías, cuando dijo:
18 He aquí mi siervo, a quien he escogido;
Mi Amado, en quien se agrada mi alma;
Pondré mi Espíritu sobre él,
Y a los gentiles anunciará juicio.
19 No contenderá, ni voceará,
Ni nadie oirá en las calles su voz.
20 La caña cascada no quebrará,
Y el pábilo que humea no apagará,
Hasta que saque a victoria el juicio.
21 Y en su nombre esperarán los gentiles.(H)
La blasfemia contra el Espíritu Santo
(Mr. 3.20-30; Lc. 11.14-23)
22 Entonces fue traído a él un endemoniado, ciego y mudo; y le sanó, de tal manera que el ciego y mudo veía y hablaba. 23 Y toda la gente estaba atónita, y decía: ¿Será este aquel Hijo de David? 24 Mas los fariseos, al oírlo, decían: Este no echa fuera los demonios sino por Beelzebú, príncipe de los demonios.(I) 25 Sabiendo Jesús los pensamientos de ellos, les dijo: Todo reino dividido contra sí mismo, es asolado, y toda ciudad o casa dividida contra sí misma, no permanecerá. 26 Y si Satanás echa fuera a Satanás, contra sí mismo está dividido; ¿cómo, pues, permanecerá su reino? 27 Y si yo echo fuera los demonios por Beelzebú, ¿por quién los echan vuestros hijos? Por tanto, ellos serán vuestros jueces. 28 Pero si yo por el Espíritu de Dios echo fuera los demonios, ciertamente ha llegado a vosotros el reino de Dios. 29 Porque ¿cómo puede alguno entrar en la casa del hombre fuerte, y saquear sus bienes, si primero no le ata? Y entonces podrá saquear su casa. 30 El que no es conmigo, contra mí es;(J) y el que conmigo no recoge, desparrama. 31 Por tanto os digo: Todo pecado y blasfemia será perdonado a los hombres; mas la blasfemia contra el Espíritu no les será perdonada. 32 A cualquiera que dijere alguna palabra contra el Hijo del Hombre, le será perdonado; pero al que hable contra el Espíritu Santo, no le será perdonado, ni en este siglo ni en el venidero.(K) 33 O haced el árbol bueno, y su fruto bueno, o haced el árbol malo, y su fruto malo; porque por el fruto se conoce el árbol.(L) 34 ¡Generación de víboras!(M) ¿Cómo podéis hablar lo bueno, siendo malos? Porque de la abundancia del corazón habla la boca.(N) 35 El hombre bueno, del buen tesoro del corazón saca buenas cosas; y el hombre malo, del mal tesoro saca malas cosas. 36 Mas yo os digo que de toda palabra ociosa que hablen los hombres, de ella darán cuenta en el día del juicio. 37 Porque por tus palabras serás justificado, y por tus palabras serás condenado.
La generación perversa demanda señal
(Lc. 11.29-32)
38 Entonces respondieron algunos de los escribas y de los fariseos, diciendo: Maestro, deseamos ver de ti señal.(O) 39 Él respondió y les dijo: La generación mala y adúltera demanda señal;(P) pero señal no le será dada, sino la señal del profeta Jonás. 40 Porque como estuvo Jonás en el vientre del gran pez tres días y tres noches,(Q) así estará el Hijo del Hombre en el corazón de la tierra tres días y tres noches. 41 Los hombres de Nínive se levantarán en el juicio con esta generación, y la condenarán; porque ellos se arrepintieron a la predicación de Jonás,(R) y he aquí más que Jonás en este lugar. 42 La reina del Sur se levantará en el juicio con esta generación, y la condenará; porque ella vino de los fines de la tierra para oír la sabiduría de Salomón,(S) y he aquí más que Salomón en este lugar.
El espíritu inmundo que vuelve
(Lc. 11.24-26)
43 Cuando el espíritu inmundo sale del hombre, anda por lugares secos, buscando reposo, y no lo halla. 44 Entonces dice: Volveré a mi casa de donde salí; y cuando llega, la halla desocupada, barrida y adornada. 45 Entonces va, y toma consigo otros siete espíritus peores que él, y entrados, moran allí; y el postrer estado de aquel hombre viene a ser peor que el primero. Así también acontecerá a esta mala generación.
La madre y los hermanos de Jesús
(Mr. 3.31-35; Lc. 8.19-21)
46 Mientras él aún hablaba a la gente, he aquí su madre y sus hermanos estaban afuera, y le querían hablar. 47 Y le dijo uno: He aquí tu madre y tus hermanos están afuera, y te quieren hablar. 48 Respondiendo él al que le decía esto, dijo: ¿Quién es mi madre, y quiénes son mis hermanos? 49 Y extendiendo su mano hacia sus discípulos, dijo: He aquí mi madre y mis hermanos. 50 Porque todo aquel que hace la voluntad de mi Padre que está en los cielos, ese es mi hermano, y hermana, y madre.
Parábola del sembrador
(Mr. 4.1-9; Lc. 8.4-8)
13 Aquel día salió Jesús de la casa y se sentó junto al mar. 2 Y se le juntó mucha gente; y entrando él en la barca, se sentó,(T) y toda la gente estaba en la playa. 3 Y les habló muchas cosas por parábolas, diciendo: He aquí, el sembrador salió a sembrar. 4 Y mientras sembraba, parte de la semilla cayó junto al camino; y vinieron las aves y la comieron. 5 Parte cayó en pedregales, donde no había mucha tierra; y brotó pronto, porque no tenía profundidad de tierra; 6 pero salido el sol, se quemó; y porque no tenía raíz, se secó. 7 Y parte cayó entre espinos; y los espinos crecieron, y la ahogaron. 8 Pero parte cayó en buena tierra, y dio fruto, cuál a ciento, cuál a sesenta, y cuál a treinta por uno. 9 El que tiene oídos para oír, oiga.
Propósito de las parábolas
(Mr. 4.10-12; Lc. 8.9-10)
10 Entonces, acercándose los discípulos, le dijeron: ¿Por qué les hablas por parábolas? 11 Él respondiendo, les dijo: Porque a vosotros os es dado saber los misterios del reino de los cielos; mas a ellos no les es dado. 12 Porque a cualquiera que tiene, se le dará, y tendrá más; pero al que no tiene, aun lo que tiene le será quitado.(U) 13 Por eso les hablo por parábolas: porque viendo no ven, y oyendo no oyen, ni entienden. 14 De manera que se cumple en ellos la profecía de Isaías, que dijo:
De oído oiréis, y no entenderéis;
Y viendo veréis, y no percibiréis.
15 Porque el corazón de este pueblo se ha engrosado,
Y con los oídos oyen pesadamente,
Y han cerrado sus ojos;
Para que no vean con los ojos,
Y oigan con los oídos,
Y con el corazón entiendan,
Y se conviertan,
Y yo los sane.(V)
16 Pero bienaventurados vuestros ojos, porque ven; y vuestros oídos, porque oyen. 17 Porque de cierto os digo, que muchos profetas y justos desearon ver lo que veis, y no lo vieron; y oír lo que oís, y no lo oyeron.(W)
Jesús explica la parábola del sembrador
(Mr. 4.13-20; Lc. 8.11-15)
18 Oíd, pues, vosotros la parábola del sembrador: 19 Cuando alguno oye la palabra del reino y no la entiende, viene el malo, y arrebata lo que fue sembrado en su corazón. Este es el que fue sembrado junto al camino. 20 Y el que fue sembrado en pedregales, este es el que oye la palabra, y al momento la recibe con gozo; 21 pero no tiene raíz en sí, sino que es de corta duración, pues al venir la aflicción o la persecución por causa de la palabra, luego tropieza. 22 El que fue sembrado entre espinos, este es el que oye la palabra, pero el afán de este siglo y el engaño de las riquezas ahogan la palabra, y se hace infructuosa. 23 Mas el que fue sembrado en buena tierra, este es el que oye y entiende la palabra, y da fruto; y produce a ciento, a sesenta, y a treinta por uno.
Parábola del trigo y la cizaña
24 Les refirió otra parábola, diciendo: El reino de los cielos es semejante a un hombre que sembró buena semilla en su campo; 25 pero mientras dormían los hombres, vino su enemigo y sembró cizaña entre el trigo, y se fue. 26 Y cuando salió la hierba y dio fruto, entonces apareció también la cizaña. 27 Vinieron entonces los siervos del padre de familia y le dijeron: Señor, ¿no sembraste buena semilla en tu campo? ¿De dónde, pues, tiene cizaña? 28 Él les dijo: Un enemigo ha hecho esto. Y los siervos le dijeron: ¿Quieres, pues, que vayamos y la arranquemos? 29 Él les dijo: No, no sea que al arrancar la cizaña, arranquéis también con ella el trigo. 30 Dejad crecer juntamente lo uno y lo otro hasta la siega; y al tiempo de la siega yo diré a los segadores: Recoged primero la cizaña, y atadla en manojos para quemarla; pero recoged el trigo en mi granero.
Parábola de la semilla de mostaza
(Mr. 4.30-32; Lc. 13.18-19)
31 Otra parábola les refirió, diciendo: El reino de los cielos es semejante al grano de mostaza, que un hombre tomó y sembró en su campo; 32 el cual a la verdad es la más pequeña de todas las semillas; pero cuando ha crecido, es la mayor de las hortalizas, y se hace árbol, de tal manera que vienen las aves del cielo y hacen nidos en sus ramas.
Parábola de la levadura
(Lc. 13.20-21)
33 Otra parábola les dijo: El reino de los cielos es semejante a la levadura que tomó una mujer, y escondió en tres medidas de harina, hasta que todo fue leudado.
El uso que Jesús hace de las parábolas
(Mr. 4.33-34)
34 Todo esto habló Jesús por parábolas a la gente, y sin parábolas no les hablaba; 35 para que se cumpliese lo dicho por el profeta, cuando dijo:
Abriré en parábolas mi boca;
Declararé cosas escondidas desde la fundación del mundo.(X)
Jesús explica la parábola de la cizaña
36 Entonces, despedida la gente, entró Jesús en la casa; y acercándose a él sus discípulos, le dijeron: Explícanos la parábola de la cizaña del campo. 37 Respondiendo él, les dijo: El que siembra la buena semilla es el Hijo del Hombre. 38 El campo es el mundo; la buena semilla son los hijos del reino, y la cizaña son los hijos del malo. 39 El enemigo que la sembró es el diablo; la siega es el fin del siglo; y los segadores son los ángeles. 40 De manera que como se arranca la cizaña, y se quema en el fuego, así será en el fin de este siglo. 41 Enviará el Hijo del Hombre a sus ángeles, y recogerán de su reino a todos los que sirven de tropiezo, y a los que hacen iniquidad, 42 y los echarán en el horno de fuego; allí será el lloro y el crujir de dientes. 43 Entonces los justos resplandecerán como el sol en el reino de su Padre. El que tiene oídos para oír, oiga.
El tesoro escondido
44 Además, el reino de los cielos es semejante a un tesoro escondido en un campo, el cual un hombre halla, y lo esconde de nuevo; y gozoso por ello va y vende todo lo que tiene, y compra aquel campo.
La perla de gran precio
45 También el reino de los cielos es semejante a un mercader que busca buenas perlas, 46 que habiendo hallado una perla preciosa, fue y vendió todo lo que tenía, y la compró.
La red
47 Asimismo el reino de los cielos es semejante a una red, que echada en el mar, recoge de toda clase de peces; 48 y una vez llena, la sacan a la orilla; y sentados, recogen lo bueno en cestas, y lo malo echan fuera. 49 Así será al fin del siglo: saldrán los ángeles, y apartarán a los malos de entre los justos, 50 y los echarán en el horno de fuego; allí será el lloro y el crujir de dientes.
Tesoros nuevos y viejos
51 Jesús les dijo: ¿Habéis entendido todas estas cosas? Ellos respondieron: Sí, Señor. 52 Él les dijo: Por eso todo escriba docto en el reino de los cielos es semejante a un padre de familia, que saca de su tesoro cosas nuevas y cosas viejas.
Jesús en Nazaret
(Mr. 6.1-6; Lc. 4.16-30)
53 Aconteció que cuando terminó Jesús estas parábolas, se fue de allí. 54 Y venido a su tierra, les enseñaba en la sinagoga de ellos, de tal manera que se maravillaban, y decían: ¿De dónde tiene este esta sabiduría y estos milagros? 55 ¿No es este el hijo del carpintero? ¿No se llama su madre María, y sus hermanos, Jacobo, José, Simón y Judas? 56 ¿No están todas sus hermanas con nosotros? ¿De dónde, pues, tiene este todas estas cosas? 57 Y se escandalizaban de él. Pero Jesús les dijo: No hay profeta sin honra, sino en su propia tierra y en su casa.(Y) 58 Y no hizo allí muchos milagros, a causa de la incredulidad de ellos.

Sabbath Questions
12 [a](A)At that time Jesus went through the grainfields on the Sabbath, and His disciples became hungry and began to (B)pick the heads of grain and eat. 2 Now when the Pharisees saw this, they said to Him, “Look, Your disciples are doing what (C)is not lawful to do on a Sabbath!” 3 But He said to them, “Have you not read what David did when he became hungry, he and his companions— 4 how he entered the house of God, and (D)they ate the [b]consecrated bread, which was not lawful for him to eat nor for those with him, but for the priests alone? 5 Or have you not read in the Law that on the Sabbath the priests in the temple [c]violate the Sabbath, and yet are innocent? 6 But I say to you that something (E)greater than the temple is here. 7 But if you had known what this [d]means: ‘(F)I desire [e]compassion, [f]rather than sacrifice,’ you would not have condemned [g]the innocent.
Lord of the Sabbath
8 For (G)the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.”
9 (H)Departing from there, He went into their synagogue. 10 And a man was there whose hand was withered. 19 (T)He will not quarrel, nor cry out;

The Pharisees Rebuked
22 (W)Then a (X)demon-possessed man who was blind and unable to speak was brought to [x]Jesus, and He healed him so that the man who was unable to speak talked and [y]could see. 23 And all the crowds were amazed and were saying, “This man cannot be the (Y)Son of David, can he?” 24 But when the Pharisees heard this, they said, “This man (Z)casts out demons only by [z]Beelzebul the ruler of the demons.”
25 (AA)And (AB)knowing their thoughts, Jesus said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste; and no city or house divided against itself will stand. 26 And if (AC)Satan is casting out Satan, he [aa]has become divided against himself; how then will his kingdom stand? 27 And if (AD)by [ab]Beelzebul I cast out the demons, (AE)by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore, they will be your judges. 28 But (AF)if I cast out the demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you. 29 Or, how can anyone enter the strong man’s house and carry off his property, unless he first ties up the strong man? And then he will plunder his house.
The Unpardonable Sin
30 (AG)The one who is not with Me is against Me; and the one who does not gather with Me scatters.
31 “(AH)Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven people, but blasphemy against the Spirit shall not be forgiven. 32 (AI)And whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, either in (AJ)this age or in the age to come.
Words Reveal Character
33 “Either [ac]assume the tree to be good as well as its fruit good, or [ad]assume the tree to be bad as well as its fruit bad; for (AK)the tree is known by its fruit. 34 (AL)You [ae]offspring of vipers, how can you, being evil, express any good things? (AM)For the mouth speaks from that which fills the heart. 35 (AN)The good person brings out of his good treasure good things; and the evil person brings out of his evil treasure evil things. 36 But I tell you that for every [af]careless word that people [ag]speak, they will give an account of it on the (AO)day of judgment. 37 For [ah]by your words you will be justified, and [ai]by your words you will be condemned.”
The Desire for Signs
38 Then some of the scribes and Pharisees said to Him, “Teacher, (AP)we want to see a [aj]sign from You.” 39 But He answered and said to them, “(AQ)An evil and adulterous generation craves a [ak]sign; and so no [al]sign will be given to it except the [am]sign of Jonah the prophet; 40 for just as (AR)Jonah was in the stomach of the sea monster for three days and three nights, so will (AS)the Son of Man be in the heart of the earth for (AT)three days and three nights. 41 (AU)The men of Nineveh will stand up with this generation at the judgment, and will condemn it because (AV)they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and behold, something (AW)greater than Jonah is here. 42 (AX)The Queen of the South will rise up with this generation at the judgment and will condemn it, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and behold, something (AY)greater than Solomon is here.
43 “(AZ)Now when the unclean spirit comes out of a person, it passes through waterless places seeking rest, and does not find it. 44 Then it says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came’; and when it comes, it finds it unoccupied, swept, and put in order. 45 Then it goes and brings along with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they come in and live there; and (BA)the last condition of that person becomes worse than the first. That is the way it will also be with this evil generation.”
Changed Relationships
46 (BB)While He was still speaking to the crowds, behold, His (BC)mother and (BD)brothers were standing outside, seeking to speak to Him. 47 [[an]Someone said to Him, “Look, Your mother and Your brothers are standing outside, seeking to speak to You.”] 48 But [ao]Jesus replied to the one who was telling Him and said, “Who is My mother, and who are My brothers?” 49 And extending His hand toward His disciples, He said, “Behold: My mother and My brothers! 50 For whoever does the will of My Father who is in heaven, he is My brother, and sister, and mother.”
Jesus Teaches in Parables
13 On that day Jesus had gone out of (BE)the house and was sitting (BF)by the sea. 2 And large crowds gathered to Him, so (BG)He got into a boat and sat down, and the whole crowd was standing on the beach.
3 And He told them many things in (BH)parables, saying, “Behold, the sower went out to sow; 4 and as he sowed, some seeds fell beside the road, and the birds came and ate them up. 5 Others fell on the rocky places, where they did not have much soil; and they sprang up immediately, because they had no depth of soil. 6 But after the sun rose, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away. 7 Others fell [ap]among the thorns, and the thorns came up and choked them out. 8 But others fell on the good soil and yielded a crop, some a (BI)hundred, some sixty, and some thirty times as much. 9 (BJ)The one who has ears, [aq]let him hear.”
An Explanation for Parables
10 And the disciples came up and said to Him, “Why do You speak to them in parables?” 11 And [ar]Jesus answered them, “(BK)To you it has been granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been granted. 12 (BL)For whoever has, to him more shall be given, and he will have an abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has shall be taken away from him. 13 Therefore I speak to them in parables; because while (BM)seeing they do not see, and while hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand. 14 And [as]in their case the prophecy of Isaiah is being fulfilled, which says,
‘[at](BN)You shall keep on listening, [au]but shall not understand;
And [av]you shall keep on looking, [aw]but shall not perceive;
15 (BO)For the heart of this people has become dull,
With their ears they scarcely hear,
And they have closed their eyes,
Otherwise they might see with their eyes,
Hear with their ears,
Understand with their heart, and return,
And I would heal them.’
16 (BP)But blessed are your eyes, because they see; and your ears, because they hear. 17 For truly I say to you that (BQ)many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.
The Sower Explained
18 “(BR)Listen then to the parable of the sower. 19 When anyone hears (BS)the [ax]word of the kingdom and does not understand it, (BT)the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart. This is the one sown with seed beside the road. 20 The one sown with seed on the rocky places, this is the one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; 21 yet he has no firm root in himself, but is only temporary, and when affliction or persecution occurs because of the [ay]word, immediately he [az](BU)falls away. 22 And the one sown with seed among the thorns, this is the one who hears the word, and the anxiety of (BV)the [ba]world and the (BW)deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, and it [bb]becomes unfruitful. 23 But the one sown with seed on the good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces, some (BX)a hundred, some sixty, and some thirty times as much.”
Weeds among Wheat
24 Jesus presented another parable to them, saying, “(BY)The kingdom of heaven [bc]is like a man who sowed good seed in his field. 25 But while his men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed [bd]weeds among the wheat, and left. 26 And when the [be]wheat sprouted and produced grain, then the weeds also became evident. 27 And the slaves of the landowner came and said to him, ‘Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? [bf]How then does it have weeds?’ 28 And he said to them, ‘[bg]An enemy has done this!’ The slaves *said to him, ‘Do you want us, then, to go and gather them up?’ 29 But he *said, ‘No; while you are gathering up the weeds, you may uproot the wheat with them. 30 Allow both to grow together until the harvest; and at the time of the harvest I will say to the reapers, “First gather up the weeds and bind them in bundles to burn them; but (BZ)gather the wheat into my barn.”’”
The Mustard Seed
31 He presented another parable to them, saying, “(CA)The kingdom of heaven is like (CB)a mustard seed, which a person took and sowed in his field; 32 and this is smaller than all the other seeds, but when it is fully grown, it is larger than the garden plants and becomes a tree, so that (CC)the birds of the sky come and nest in its branches.”
The Leaven
33 He spoke another parable to them: “(CD)The kingdom of heaven is like [bh]leaven, which a woman took and hid in (CE)three [bi]sata of flour until it was all leavened.”
34 All these things Jesus spoke to the crowds in parables, and He did not speak anything to them (CF)without a parable. 35 This was so that what was spoken through the prophet would be [bj]fulfilled:
“(CG)I will open My mouth in parables;
I will proclaim things hidden since the foundation of the world.”
The Weeds Explained
36 Then He left the crowds and went into (CH)the house. And His disciples came to Him and said, “(CI)Explain to us the parable of the [bk]weeds of the field.” 37 And He said, “The one who sows the good seed is (CJ)the Son of Man, 38 and the field is the world; and as for the good seed, these are (CK)the sons of the kingdom; and the weeds are (CL)the sons of (CM)the evil one; 39 and the enemy who sowed them is the devil, and the harvest is (CN)the [bl]end of the age; and the reapers are angels. 40 So just as the weeds are gathered up and burned with fire, so shall it be at (CO)the [bm]end of the age. 41 (CP)The Son of Man (CQ)will send forth His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom [bn]all (CR)stumbling blocks, and those who commit lawlessness, 42 and they (CS)will throw them into the furnace of fire; in that place (CT)there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 43 (CU)Then the righteous will shine forth like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. (CV)The one who has ears, [bo]let him hear.
Hidden Treasure
44 “(CW)The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in the field, which a man found and hid again; and from [bp]joy over it he goes and (CX)sells everything that he has, and buys that field.
A Costly Pearl
45 “Again, (CY)the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking fine pearls, 46 and upon finding one pearl of great value, he went and sold everything that he had and bought it.
A Dragnet
47 “Again, (CZ)the kingdom of heaven is like a dragnet that was cast into the sea and gathered fish of every kind; 48 and when it was filled, they pulled it up on the beach; and they sat down and gathered the good fish into containers, but the bad they threw away. 49 So it will be at (DA)the [bq]end of the age: the angels will come forth and remove the wicked from among the righteous, 50 and they (DB)will throw them into the furnace of fire; in that place (DC)there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
51 “Have you understood all these things?” They *said to Him, “Yes.” 52 And [br]Jesus said to them, “Therefore every scribe who has become a disciple of the kingdom of heaven is like a head of a household, who brings out of his treasure new things and old.”
Jesus Revisits Nazareth
53 (DD)When Jesus had finished these parables, He departed from there. 54 And (DE)He came to [bs]His hometown and (DF)began teaching them in their synagogue, with the result that (DG)they were astonished, and said, “Where did this man acquire this wisdom and these [bt]miraculous powers? 55 Is this not the carpenter’s son? Is (DH)His mother not called Mary, and His (DI)brothers, James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas? 56 And (DJ)His sisters, are they not all with us? Where then did this man acquire all these things?” 57 And they took (DK)offense at Him. But Jesus said to them, “(DL)A prophet is not dishonored except in his [bu]hometown and in his own household.” 58 And He did not do many [bv]miracles there because of their unbelief.
