The Baptism of Jesus
9 In(A) those days Jesus came from Nazareth(B) in Galilee(C) and was baptized in the Jordan by John. 10 As soon as he came up out of the water, he saw the heavens(D) being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. 11 And a voice(E) came from heaven:(F) “You are my beloved(G) Son;(H) with you I am well-pleased.”(I)
The Temptation of Jesus
12 Immediately(J) the Spirit(K) drove(L) him into the wilderness.(M) 13 He was in the wilderness forty days, being tempted(N) by Satan.(O) He was with the wild animals,(P) and the angels(Q) were serving him.
Ministry in Galilee
14 After(R) John was arrested,(S) Jesus went to Galilee,(T) proclaiming(U) the good news[a][b](V) of God:(W) 15 “The time(X) is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God(Y) has come(Z) near.(AA) Repent(AB) and believe(AC) the good news!”
The First Disciples
16 As(AD) he passed alongside the Sea of Galilee,(AE) he saw Simon(AF) and Andrew,(AG) Simon’s brother, casting a net into the sea(AH)—for they were fishermen. 17 “Follow me,”(AI) Jesus told them, “and I will make you fish for[c](AJ) people.”(AK) 18 Immediately they left their nets and followed(AL) him.(AM) 19 Going on a little farther, he saw James(AN) the son of Zebedee(AO) and his brother John(AP) in a boat putting their nets in order. 20 Immediately he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed him.(AQ)
