1 ^(A)In the beginning was ^(B)the Word, and the Word was ^(C)with God, and ^(D)the Word was God. ^2 [a]He was in the beginning with God. ^3 (E)All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him ^[b]not even one thing came into being that has come into being.

The Word Made Flesh

¹⁴ And ^(A)the Word ^(B)became flesh, and ^(C)dwelt among us; and ^(D)we saw His glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of ^(E)grace and ^(F)truth.

The New Birth

3 Now there was a man of the Pharisees, named ^(A)Nicodemus, a ^(B)ruler of the Jews; ² this man came to ^[a]Jesus at night and said to Him, “^(C)Rabbi, we know that You have come from God as a teacher; for no one can do these ^[b](D)signs that You do unless ^(E)God is with him.” ³ Jesus responded and said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless someone ^(F)is born ^[c]again he cannot see ^(G)the kingdom of God.”

⁴ Nicodemus *said to Him, “How can a person be born when he is old? He cannot enter his mother’s womb a second time and be born, can he?” ⁵ Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless someone is born of ^(H)water and the Spirit, he cannot enter ^(I)the kingdom of God. ^6 (J)That which has been born of the flesh is flesh, and that which has been born of the Spirit is spirit. ⁷ Do not be amazed that I said to you, ‘You must be born ^[d]again.’

⁴ For it is ^(A)impossible for the ^(B)blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. ⁵ Therefore, ^(C)when He comes into the world, He says,

⁸ After saying above, “^(I)Sacrifices and offerings and ^(J)whole burnt offerings and offerings ^(K)for sin You have not desired, nor have You taken pleasure in them” (which are offered according to the Law), ⁹ then He ^[a]said, “^(L)Behold, I have come to do Your will.” He takes away the first in order to establish the second. ¹⁰ By ^[b]this will, we have been ^(M)sanctified through ^(N)the offering of ^(O)the body of Jesus Christ ^(P)once for all time.

¹¹ Every priest stands daily ministering and ^(Q)offering time after time the same sacrifices, which ^(R)can never take away sins; ¹² but He, having offered one sacrifice ^(S)for ^[c]sins ^(T)for all time, ^(U)sat down at the right hand of God, ¹³ waiting from that time onward ^(V)until His enemies are made a footstool for His feet. ¹⁴ For by one offering He has ^(W)perfected ^(X)for all time those who are ^[d]sanctified.

³ And everyone who has this ^(A)hope set on Him ^(B)purifies himself, just as He is pure.
