³a people who provoke me
   to my face continually,
^(A) sacrificing in gardens
   and making offerings on bricks;
⁴who sit in tombs,
   and spend the night in secret places;
^(B) who eat pig’s flesh,
   and broth of tainted meat is in their vessels;
⁵who say, "Keep to yourself,
   do not come near me, for I am too holy for you."
^(C) These are a smoke in my nostrils,
   a fire that burns all the day.

¹³For you have heard of^(A) my former life in Judaism, how^(B) I persecuted the church of God violently and tried to destroy it. ¹⁴And I was advancing in Judaism beyond many of my own age among my people, so extremely^(C) zealous was I for^(D) the traditions of my fathers.
